DUAL RAISED FOIL BOOKMARKS

Two Raised Finishes. One Striking Piece.

Dual Raised Foil Bookmarks combine a soft velvet laminated surface with two raised effects on the front. Pair two raised foil colors, or combine raised foil with 50-micron raised Spot UV for tactile contrast.

Raised foil and raised gloss create a noticeable dimensional effect.

Artwork Setup for Dual Raised

Provide the CMYK print file plus two separate vector mask files—one for each raised effect.
Use solid 100% black in each mask and white everywhere else. Do not use shadows, glows or grayscale.
Avoid knockouts and allow for up to 1/16 inch registration shift between print and raised treatments.
Keep raised foil coverage near 30% or less for most designs and avoid very small foil lettering.

Choose square corners or one of the available rounded-corner treatments.

Artwork Setup for Foil

Foil requires a normal CMYK print file plus a separate black-and-white mask file showing exactly where foil will be applied.

Mask file: Use solid black for areas that receive foil and white for areas with no foil.
File setup: Keep the foil mask aligned exactly with the CMYK print artwork.
Details: Avoid extremely fine lines, tiny type and very small isolated elements.
Foil color: Gold and silver use the same artwork setup; choose the foil color as the finishing option.

Cut path: Place the contour path on a separate layer and keep it as vector artwork.

Shape: Avoid extremely small details, sharp inside corners and narrow projections.
Bleed: Extend backgrounds past the cut line when printing reaches the finished edge.

Ordering & Artwork

How should I prepare artwork for bookmarks?

Set artwork to the finished size, use CMYK color, and include bleed when artwork reaches the edge. Keep important text and logos at least 0.125 inch inside the cut line. PDF is recommended; JPG, EPS and TIFF can also be used.

How much bleed should I include?

For standard bookmark files, extend artwork 0.0625 inch beyond each cut edge, creating 0.125 inch total additional size across each dimension.

What resolution should images be?

Use 300 dpi at final size for raster images.

How many mask files are required?

Two separate vector mask files are required—one for each raised effect.

What artwork should be used in the masks?

Use solid 100% black for the areas receiving the raised treatment and white everywhere else. Do not use shadows, glows or grayscale in the masks.

How much raised foil coverage is recommended?

Keep raised foil coverage at 30% or less for most artwork. Patterns, thin strokes or small shapes may allow up to 50%.

What is the recommended minimum foil text size?

Avoid fonts smaller than 10 pt; thicker or bold lettering is better at 12 pt or larger.

Can the two raised treatments overlap?

Design the two masks as distinct raised treatments. Keep critical alignment away from tight knockouts because a small registration shift can occur.
