Saddle Stitch Signatures

Saddle Stitch page counts work in four-page increments because each printed sheet is folded in half and becomes four finished booklet pages. This is a production rule, not just a template preference: 8, 12, 16, 20, 24 pages and other multiples of four work naturally, while a page count such as 10 or 14 would require adjustment.

Saddle Stitch booklets are built from folded sheets called signatures. Each sheet contributes four finished booklet pages—two pages on the front and two on the back—so the total page count must be divisible by four, including covers when they are part of the same saddle-stitched booklet.

Count every finished page in the booklet, including blank pages and covers when the cover is included in the same stitched signature set. For example, an 8-page saddle-stitch booklet uses two signature sheets; a 20-page booklet uses five.

Saddle Stitch — Standard & Bulk Run Booklets Templates

Booklet templates use the finished page size only, never the flat production sheet. The Compact Orientation Template Layout follows the actual estimator options: each nominal page size appears once, with Vertical first and Horizontal second only when those orientations are actually offered. For example, when both 6 × 9 Portrait and 9 × 6 Landscape are available, the row shows 6x9.pdf under Vertical and 9x6.pdf under Horizontal. If a size is offered only in Landscape—such as 17 × 11 in products where no 11 × 17 Portrait option exists—only the Horizontal template is shown. Square page sizes appear once because rotating equal dimensions does not create a different page size. Use the File Requirements section below for bleed, safety, resolution, color and final PDF preparation. Saddle Stitch artwork is still submitted as individual finished-size pages; the four-page signature arrangement is handled during production. Plan the total booklet page count in multiples of four because each folded signature sheet contributes four finished pages.

Prepare individual pages at the finished page size. Do not build booklet pages as printer spreads unless specifically requested by our prepress team.
