Artwork and Production Workflow

Choose the finished size, orientation, paper, sheet count and binding edge before preparing artwork. Keep the glue edge clear of critical content and provide separate variable-data or numbering instructions when selected.

Uncoated Text Paper

60 lb, 70 lb, 80 lb and 100 lb uncoated text paper with a natural writable surface.

Colored Papers

20 lb bond / 50 lb text pastel color paper and 24 lb bond / 60 lb text bright color paper.

Specialty Papers

Astroparche, cotton, fiber, laid, linen, natural and Strathmore paper in the applicable weights.

Writing-surface note: Uncoated, bond and specialty text papers generally provide the easiest writing surface. Gloss and matte coated papers may perform differently depending on the pen or pencil used.

Binding Edge & Sheet Count

Notepads may be glued on the short edge or long edge. Choose the edge that best matches how the pad will be used and opened.

Glue Short EdgeCommon top-bound configuration for portrait notepads.
Glue Long EdgeSide-bound or top-bound configuration depending on orientation.
20–50 SheetsSelect the number of sheets included in each finished pad.
Artwork setup: Keep critical text, logos and form fields away from the glued edge. Clearly identify the glue edge in the order instructions.
Variable Text & Numbering

Variable text: Choose no variable text or variable text. Supply XLS, XLSX or CSV data with one record per row and clearly labeled columns.

Numbering: No numbering; start at 000001, 000101, 001001, 010001 or 100001; or specify another starting number in the additional instructions.

Numbering instructions: Identify the number position, font, size, color and starting value. Confirm whether numbers change by sheet, by pad or by another required sequence.

Submit one print-ready PDF for each printed side. Variable text and numbering selections require clear supporting data and placement instructions.

Print File Checklist
  • Use the template matching the finished size and orientation.
  • Extend backgrounds and images through the bleed area.
  • Keep important content inside the safety margin and away from the glued edge.
  • Remove nonprinting guides before exporting the final PDF.
Two-Sided Artwork

Submit separate front and back PDFs. Both files must use the same page size and orientation. Verify the top and glue edges so the reverse side is not rotated unexpectedly.

Variable Text Data

Upload a clean XLS, XLSX or CSV file with one record per row and one variable field per column. Include a sample showing how the data maps to the artwork.

Numbering Placement

Clearly identify the number location and formatting. Include a proof example showing the first number and explain whether the sequence advances on every sheet or by finished pad.
